Movie Mondays!

Watching this, I was reminded of LA Confidential. Only later after digging did I realize both stories are by the same author, James Ellroy. It's standard Hollywood fare, a bit of a throwback to the days of Sunset Boulevard and Double Indemnity. If you liked those movies, you’ll appreciate Black Dahlia otherwise you'll be better off steering clear. I enjoyed it. DePalma is a tremendous student of film and this movie reestablishes his love of the medium. Actors are shot in the diffuse glow popular during the period. Dialog is taut (almost clichéd) but entertaining. It’s film noir for the current Hollywood generation. A seedy story where even the heroes have flaws.
